Junior Iditarod 2005

Amy Gundlach

Amy Gundlach is 14 years old and started mushing in 2001. She ran a team of Chris and Wayne's in her first Jr. Iditarod. She is a fresheman at Wasilla High School, participating in Science Olympiad, soccer, student government and the National Junior Honor Society. Amy is on the Honor Roll. She's also involved in Girl Scouts, enjoys reading and showing dogs, volunteers at a few elementary school and babysits. She says she would like to continue mushing.
Amy trained with Wayne. The Stormwatch dogs used in training were Shadow, Anvik, Cindar, Pam, Bruno. Growls, Tabby, Yukon, Sam, Shak and Doc. She wanted and planned to use Shadow, Anvik, Danger, Shak and Cindar in the Junior Iditarod race.
The Junior Iditarod started on February 26 and finished on February 26. The race runs along the Iditarod Trail to Yentna Station. Here the mushers must take a mandatory 10 hour layover before returning to Settlers Bay. Amy finished 17th out of 21 teams. Good job Amy and Team Stormwatch!
